For years, "Mir hawwe zwaa Meter Schnee... breit" (Hessian dialect for: two meters of snow broadly based) was a popular phrase of the winter sports information of Hochtaunuskreis. Since then, opportunities for winter sports in the Taunus Mountains have widely increased, and the new phrase reads “Auf in den Taunus” (get active in the Taunus Mountains).
More than 100 kilometers of cross-country ski tracks, ski hiking trails and ski slopes (both with and without ski lifts), a ski shuttle bus or natural skating rinks please all winter sports enthusiasts. A special "snow hotline” even keeps you up to date on the current snow conditions.
