Back in ancient times people realized that Ursel creek was particularly suitable for the technical use of its water power. Probably as early as in the 14th century, mills and water powered utilities (for example „Schmiedhaemmer“) were constructed at the Ursel creek. Thus a very active industrial life could develop in town.

Over the centuries, the mills as well as the constructions of water powered utilities were able to meet all the changing and growing requirements of the market; the factories further developed, e.g. to a cane factory and later even an electronic factory. Today water power gaining electricity is still in use on two locations.
The „Muehlenwanderweg“ (mills round tour) will take you along the Ursel creek with its trenches, while boards inform you about the natural and industrial history of Oberursel.
