In the 19th century many mills at Ursel creek were dispatched in favor of industrialization. Today the historic “Mühlenwanderweg” (mills loop route) provides information about this important chapter of the town´s history.
Over time, Ursel creek´s hydropower has been replaced by steam power. A cotton spinning mill at Hohen Mark was founded, more factories followed. It wasn´t long until the first train connected Frankfurt with Bad Homburg via Oberursel, and in 1899 the „Kleinbahn“(small train) started traveling to Hohe Mark.
1850 also tells the story about Oberursel´s motor factory, which once started out with nothing more than a grinding mill - present day Rolls Royce.
